Municipal Utilities Energy Efficiency Rebate Program

The efficient use of energy is important to Algona
Municipal Utilities. To that
end, AMU offers rebates to encourage the purchase of more efficient
electric appliances.
The AMU rebate program applies to the following new
appliances: electric water heaters, electric central air conditioners,
electric heat pumps (air source or geothermal), and electric washing
machines with horizontal axis or equal.
All geothermal heat pumps planned within the City Limits of Algona
must be approved by the Algona Municipal Utilities Board of Trustees
prior to installation. All
geothermal heat pump systems that utilize a well must meet all
requirements for a nonpublic water supply well as established by the
State of
Iowa
. Closed loop systems must have full depth grouting and pump and dump
systems must have full depth grouting to the bottom of the well casing.
Pump and dump geothermal systems cannot be discharged to the
storm sewer or sanitary sewer system.
Wells for geothermal heat pump systems cannot have any
interconnection with the public water system and cannot be used for
domestic water use.
Appliances and/or equipment must be installed on the
Algona Municipal Utilities electrical system.
To apply for rebate, a copy of the original sales
receipt with the cost of the appliance clearly shown separate from other
charges must accompany the appliance rebate application.
After this is received, AMU will inspect the appliance to see if
it qualifies. If the
appliance meets the requirements, payment will then be issued to the
authorized dealer and the customer listed on the rebate application
form.
AMU will stock the 40 gallon
Marathon
, 50 gallon
Marathon
, and 85 gallon
Marathon
water heaters for approved dealers to sell to AMU customers.
The
Marathon
water heater is warranted not to leak for as long as you own your home.
AMU also carries warranty replacement thermostats and elements.
As of
December 31, 2007
AMU will no longer stock
Marathon
water heaters.
AMU reserves the right to change, modify or end any
or all parts of the rebate program with or without notice.
