Keep Iowa's Utility Workers Safe! Move Over - Slow Down!

Iowa has a new law that requires motorists to move to another lane or  slow down when approaching stationary utility vehicles with flashing lights activated. The law is designed to protect the safety of motorists and utility employees that work along Iowa's streets and roads. Violation of the law could cost motorists a fine of at least $100 and/or suspension of their driver's license. For more information, go to https://iowadot.gov/rules

Algona Municipal Utilities Alerting Businesses about Scam on Disconnection Notices

AMU received reports on Saturday, November 17, 2018, about Algona businesses receiving calls from someone claiming to be an AMU representative wanting payment for electric service or risk having that service disconnected. Caller ID information shows these calls are coming from a private number. The caller claims the business needs to make payment within 40 minutes or the power will be shutoff. The caller also gives out a toll-free 800 number to make the payment. Businesses receiving these calls should not give the caller any information. Hang up the phone and call the Algona Police Department at 295-3515 and AMU at 295-3584.
